Jisko - The Open Source Micro Blogging Application

Jisko is the latest (in beta) open-source micro blogging application to hit the streets and it’s looking pretty cool.

As you can see from the profile page it looks a tad like Twitter, but from a design aspect looks better than identi.ca, for example one nice feature is that you don’t have to refresh the page to get the latest posts it does it via some Ajax goodness.

So lets look at some of the features, from the get go you can update your Jisko status from a few places If you want you can update using Jabber bot, or on the go with the Jisko mobile site, or the mobile application, and they have a desktop application coming soon (JiskoAir). The service also comes with a Wordpress plugin, WP2Jisko which allows you to send a note every time you update your WordPress blog.

All Jisko users can customize their profiles. You can upload your favorite background image and avatar and choose your preferred theme. And Twitter Integration is also added!, this allows you to add in your twitter account details, which will mix in your twitter friends with your notes that you make in Jisko, like so.

For developers the source code can be obtained here. You can report bugs or submit patches at Launchpad. An International version of the software is coming soon but the developers want to make the software right in both Spain and South America before they go international, therefore the wiki and the site will be in Spanish for the moment.

I haven’t been using this for long but I already like it more than identi.ca mainly due to the feature list, the customization options and the UI. Not many people on here at the moment so sign-up and give it a go, let us know what you think?

  1. Hi,

I’m curious to know where did you get the screenshot from as the main website is still in Spanish..

  2. When I took the screenshot the site was part English and part Spanish as well as the developer wiki. They changed it to an all Spanish version to make sure Jisko worked in Spain and South America first before rolling it out internationally, which should be soon

  3. Compared to its other open-source cousin, identi.ca, I think Jisko looks pretty well developed at this point!

Hopefully, their developer site launches soon… and hopefully it’s in English!
