New tactic for the Twitter spammers

One of the easiest ways to spot Twitter Spammers and Fakers was either by the number of posts they have on the page or by the follower, following ratio.

Not any more, they must have seen this and what they are doing now is by using twitterfeed they are subscribing to a lot of RSS feeds, (one of them being mine and it’s one of the reasons I spotted it), here is one of the new bread of Twitter spammers, I used this one as an example as he has my blog RSS in his twitter feed….

As you can see most of this persons posts are from twitterfeed and the profile website is masked with a bit.ly url which does take you to an earn more bucks fast website, (although I suggest not clicking any masked links) the idea i guess would be to maybe mix in malicious links with the other blog links which also might allow them to fly under the Twitter spam radar.

A way you can check if you blog is being used by any of these spammers is by typing the exact title of your blog post into Twitter Search, and look for the people that have bad follower/following ratios.

Now having said that some people out there do use your RSS feed for good, an example of this for me would be @twittea who provides a excellent service by aggregating all the Twitter news into an easy to follow tweet stream, and is great to keep in touch with what is going on when you are out and about.

I am a bit concerned however that the spammers are allowed to use blog feeds to lure people in to some crap get rich quick scheme or some malicious virus link, as you can see the follower/following rates are still significantly low to see this guy is a spammer but I think the day when just checking 1 tweet = spammer is over, you gotta do some more digging to be sure.

Update

Well would you look at that, he made an update
