The Countdown has begun to the billionth tweet

It’s been a rocky road for Twitter since it’s conception, the fail whales, the missing followers, api struggles and spammers not to mention the suitors to it’s thrown such as Pownce, Jaiku, friendfeed, identi.ca etc.. having all this thrown in it’s path it’s still going from strength to strength and to celebrate the coming of the billionth tweet, popacular have released a nice little countdown site called gigatweet

From here you can watch the tweets go by (at a pretty quick rate) with the amount of time left, to that milestone tweet which at the current rate of tweets will be on November the 13. Also while you are checking out this site you might want to have a look at another site done by popacular, which lists the most popular websites that are being talked about on Twitter
