Auto follow people on Twitter with Twollow

Twollow is a new site that allows you to automatically follow people on Twitter based on the keywords you enter in. You can specify up to 5 different keywords, and as soon as someone mentions it in a tweet you will automatically follow them.

Here is a quick video demo from the makers on how Twollow works.

One of the downsides I see to this service would be the spam implications, If for example you are an Apple fan and you type Apple as your keyword or iPhone then you are going to follow a lot of people very quickly which might be taken by Twitter as a spamming account.

Overall for following people based on them talking about your brand or username then this service could be a good tool, but for following people based on popular keywords such as Apple, iPhone, Obama, Coffee etc… this could potentially get you into hot water with Twitter.

What do you think useful tool or potential spamming system?

  1. As VP of Biz Dev on implu, I’d certainly appreciate some input here. Clearly, implu – http://www.implu.com – is not a common everyday word. But our site has data on public companies, lobbyist, nonprofit organizations, etc. Those are common everyday words. Then again, people who follow our competitors on twitter may be interested in learning about us. People who follow synergistic organizations such as CRM companies may also be interested in learning about us. This is a neat application but I think it should be used sparingly.

    Thoughts?
